Chigwell School is a co-educational independent boarding and day school. It is a private school in Chigwell , in the Epping Forest district of Essex . It consists of a Pre Prep (ages 4–7), Prep School (ages 7–11), Senior School (ages 11–16) and Sixth Form .
At Chigwell, we pride ourselves on our warm and friendly approach and take time to get to know future pupils and their families well. We are a selective school but we do our best to make the assessment process as comfortable and enjoyable as possible – we want to see applicants at their best.
Chigwell School is an academically selective independent school for boys and girls between the ages of four and eighteen. The foundation of the School is Anglican and a Christian ethos is maintained, but pupils and staff are welcomed from many different ethnic and religious backgrounds.
The School was formally founded by Samuel Harsnett, Archbishop of York and Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University. It then had 16 ‘poor scholars’. The original school building, known as “Big School”, was in what now houses the Swallow Library.

Chigwell is a co-educational school for pupils aged between 4 and 18 set in 100 acres of beautiful grounds. We offer a balanced education in a stable, traditional environment, but one nonetheless focussed on the future.
