Edwin Earl Catmull (born March 31, 1945) is an American computer scientist and animator who served as the co-founder of Pixar and the President of Walt Disney Animation Studios. He has been honored for his contributions to 3D computer graphics, including the 2019 ACM Turing Award.
Edwin Catmull’s pioneering work in the field of computer graphics and animation underpins the film industry as we know it today. Catmull was born Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1945 but moved to Utah when he was six months old.

Early in life, Edwin Catmull found inspiration in Disney movies such as Peter Pan and Pinocchio and dreamed of becoming a feature film animator. He even made primitive animation using so-called flip-books. However, he assessed his chances realistically and decided that his talents lay elsewhere.
