So You Want to be Top? is a British children's television programme presented by Gary Wilmot. It aired for 3 series from 7 November 1983 until 17 December 1985 normally on a Friday afternoon.
Lyrics (sung by Gary) went along the lines of "So you want to be top? So you want to be top? So you..." (you can guess the rest). There was also a bit (well, at least for one of the series) which went "So you want to be T.O.P.? You gotta make it B.I.G! Don't wanna be an F.L.O.P! So you want to be top!".
So You Want to be Top?: Created by John Langdon, Ian White. With Gary Wilmot, Caroline Bernstein, David Coker, Leni Harper. The show included sketches and games that were slapstick in nature. The contestants were schoolchildren (except for series 3. Much of the dialogue was pun-laden and tended to elicit groans from the audience.

So You Want To Be Top. 1 9 8 3 – 1 9 8 5 (UK) 18 x 15 minute episodes. This BBC programme for kids was presented by Gary Wilmot (initially with the help of Bill Homewood) and featured games with adult “schoolchildren” contestants in teams called “Creeps” vs “Crawlers”.
So You Want to be Top? was a 30 minute mixture of silly games and sketches and, as all children’s programmes apparently have to be, by law, was filled with puns.
