Down The Gate was written by Roy Turvey and Maurice Sellar (based on an idea by Varney himself) and recorded at ATV’s Elstree Studio. Tony Melody played Reg’s best mate, Len Peacock. His other mate, “Old Wol”, was played by Reg Lye.
