Computer Space is a space combat arcade video game released in 1971. Created by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney in partnership as Syzygy Engineering, it was the first arcade video game as well as the first commercially available video game.

In February 1962, a group of MIT engineers created Spacewar!, a game that was free to play for those lucky enough to have access to the few bulky, expensive computers of the day. Atari game designer Ed Logg based his bestselling 1979 space shooter Asteroids on elements borrowed from Computer Space and Space Invaders (1978). Even Bushnell’s and Dabney’s experience developing and selling Computer Space proved vital.
