Makoto Yukimura (Japanese: 幸村 誠, Hepburn: Yukimura Makoto, born May 8, 1976) is a Japanese manga artist best known for his manga Planetes and Vinland Saga.
Before writing his own manga he started out as an assistant to Shin Morimura. He debuted in 2000 with Planetes, which was adapted to a 26-episode anime. He is currently working on Vinland Saga which began serialization in Weekly Shounen Magazine, and later on continued serialization in Afternoon.
According to manga author Makoto Yukimura, the conception of Planetes was simple. One day in a library, he came across a scientific book that talked about the remains of spacecraft and satellites that were in Earth orbit.
