Erik "Eero" Nikolai Järnefelt (8 November 1863 – 15 November 1937) was a Finnish painter and art professor. He is best known for his portraits and landscapes of the area around Koli National Park.
This exhibition presents the extensive oeuvre of Eero Järnefelt (1863–1937), who grew up in a cultured, cosmopolitan family, and it explores the artist’s significance for Finnish art and Finnishness.

The show presents the extensive oeuvre of Eero Järnefelt (1863–1937), who grew up in a cosmopolitan cultural family, as well as the significance of the artist and his immediate family for Finnish art and Finnishness.
Under the Yoke (Burning the Brushwood) is Eero Järnefelt's most famous work. It was first named in words from the Kalevala, while the name in brackets appeared when it was exhibited in 1897....
Eero Järnefelt depicts Savonians slash-and-burning in his painting Raatajat rahanalaiset. In the 1890s Järnefelt also became one of Finland’s most notable portrait painters. He painted portraits both of central cultural figures, such as Sibelius and Aho, and more intimate portraits of his family.
