It is the fourth-largest county in New York by area. Jefferson County is in New York State's northern lobe, adjacent to the area where the Saint Lawrence River exits Lake Ontario. It is northeast of Syracuse, and northwest of Utica. The county is at the international border with Canada.
County Clerk. The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office consists of three main subdivisions; Recording, Records Management, and the Department of Motor Vehicles. The County Clerk is the Clerk of the Supreme and County Courts, and also serves as Records Management Officer, the Clerk’s main function is to be a record keeper for the County.

Jefferson, county, northern New York state, U.S., mostly comprising a lowland region bounded by Lake Ontario to the west and Ontario, Canada, to the northwest, the St. Lawrence River constituting the boundary. It is linked by bridge to Ontario and features several bay inlets, notably Chaumont, Black River, and Henderson bays.
