Zika virus (ZIKV; pronounced ⫽ ˈ z iː k ə ⫽ or ⫽ ˈ z ɪ k ə ⫽) is a member of the virus family Flaviviridae. It is spread by daytime-active Aedes mosquitoes, such as A. aegypti and A. albopictus . [5]
Zika virus infection is primarily transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, similar to dengue. Only about one in five infections are symptomatic. Zika is generally a mild and self-limiting illness. Although rare, serious neurological complications and foetal abnormalities have been associated with Zika virus infection.
