SE Electronics' R1. 4. Groove Tubes Velo 8. The Velo 8 brought instant smiles to our faces, with its lovely, smooth, dark, rolled-off top end. Dec 20, 2011 · Sonic Distribution recently set up a blind listening test at Sphere studios in London, where the following mics were used to record the same set of vocal and acoustic guitar examples: SE Electronics X1, Rode NT1A, AKG Perception P220 and Neumann TLM102.
To universal surprise, it was the Audio Technica AT2020. The C12VR came a very close second place, the difference being that the AT2020's sound just seemed to put the vocal in its rightful, prominent place up-front in the mix.
