Naming Lost Girl its "highest rated drama series", on December 9, 2011, Showcase announced that the show had been renewed for a third season with production on thirteen episodes set to begin in Spring 2012.
Prodigy Pictures announced the start of principle photography on Season 3 on April 17, 2012, with the season premiere slated for Fall 2012.
On June 5, 2012, Syfy (U.S.) announced that it had renewed Lost Girl for a 13-episode third season to begin in January 2013.
