Cowes ( / kaʊz /) is an English seaport town and civil parish [3] on the Isle of Wight. Cowes is located on the west bank of the estuary of the River Medina, facing the smaller town of East Cowes on the east bank. The two towns are linked by the Cowes Floating Bridge, a chain ferry . Cowes has a population of 14,370 according to the 2021 Census.

Cowes is the maritime gateway to the Isle of Wight, and is known for both it's rich Royal heritage and it's sailing and ship building.
- Beaches. Generally, I wouldn't head to the Cowes area for a day out at the beach, but it's a nice spot for a wander (see our beaches guide for family beach trip ideas).
- Shopping. Cowes is the kind of place which mostly avoids grotty pound shops and the like. Instead, there are quite a few posh yachty retailers as well as some independent shops selling pretty things you didn’t realise you needed.

- Sir Max Aitken Museum. There’s a free museum in the centre of Cowes, which is a collection of stuff belonging to a local character who was an MP, a newspaper magnate, a fighter pilot, a yacht racer and the founder of the London Boat Show.

Known as the mecca of the sailing world, Cowes has something to offer visitors all year round. Home to Cowes Week, the world’s oldest and largest sailing regatta. There are plenty of things to do both on and off the water.
Cowes on the Isle of Wight is a Mecca for yachtsman and hosts many national and international events. During the sailing season the waterfront is a kaleidoscope of colourful sails. The focal point is the Royal Yacht Squadron, housed in the former Cowes Castle.
