Besides growing the local talent pool, A*STAR also recruits scientists and engineers from overseas.26 With continued emphasis on the innovation sector in Singapore, the number of researchers, scientists and engineers working with A*STAR has doubled from 15,000 in 2002 to 30,000 in 2012.27

Nov 29, 2021 · A*STAR is also a strong proponent and catalyst for the local biotech ecosystem. As of 2019, there are over 100 biotech companies in Singapore, and more than half have a significant partnership with A*STAR, such as a joint laboratory. In addition, more than a third of them are A*STAR spinoffs.
