The action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen is a far better Die Hard movie than the one released last month. That's not to say this film isn't without its ludicrous moments and formulaic faults, but Olympus Has Fallen is still a solid, old school action-thriller featuring a fine cast and a sincere execution by director Antoine Fuqua that lifts it above other fare of this sort.

Gerard Butler stars as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, a tough but reliable bloke who serves on the personal protection detail of President Ben Asher (Aaron Eckhart). He's not just the President's bodyguard, but also a close friend to both him and his young son Connor (Finley Jacobsen).

But after a tragedy during the line of duty, Banning finds himself transferred to Treasury (the Secret Service's other duty being counterfeiting investigations). Banning gets a chance to redeem himself when a surprise attack on the White House cripples the U.S. government and leads to the capture of President Asher and his key staff during the visit by the leader of South Korea.

Gerard Butler can still make good movies, like the surprisingly fun action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen that's a far better Die Hard movie than the one released last month.

  4. Mar 22, 2013 · Olympus Has Fallen is a perfect blend of annoying and violent. To even prompt basic enjoyment out of this flick you will need to suspend disbelief by a crane, forget anything you know about technology, and sit casually by as practically all good sense gets trampled.
