Frame Rate Target Control (FRTC) is a feature which enables users to set a target maximum frame rate when playing an application in full screen mode. FRTC can reduce GPU power consumption (great for games running at frame rates much higher than the display refresh rate) and help create cooler and quieter gaming.

You can see that while there is a similar ~1ms jitter in the render times for all three, FRTC is far more consistent in terms of the actual time between display changes.

Sep 2, 2022 · For quite some time I use the frame rate target control to limit all games' fps to 165. This is my screens' refresh rate. But a game like Fallout 4 doesn't quite work with default settings (ingame Vsync is an fps killer) and neither with unlimited fps (wonky physics).
