- You work harder. After you're married, your successes are shared. Every time you get a promotion or a raise, your spouse will also revel in and benefit from your successes, and vice versa.
- Time goes by faster. Straub also points out that time moves much more quickly as a married couple. "The time it took for us to get from being strangers working [in] the same office to being married felt like a hundred lifetimes, each with multiple possible outcomes, like a Choose Your Own Adventure book," she wrote.
- You're more open to new experiences. Since you'll be seeing more of your spouse than any other person in your life after you're married, you'll be witnessing their best—and ugliest—sides.
- You're more conscientiousness. According to a 2017 University of Georgia study, which examined heterosexual couples, husbands became more conscientiousness after marriage, meaning that they were more likely to consider their wives' needs.
- Slow down. You’ve just finished one of, if not the, biggest event you’ll plan in your lifetime. Reward yourself by turning your phones off, having a spa day, or relaxing however you want.
- Clean and organize. This can mean cleaning the wedding venues if needed or simply cleaning your home before leaving for your honeymoon. Separate wedding items that need to be returned to family and friends, sold, and donated for a later date.
- Return rentals. Check your vendor’s policies and schedule a pickup for furniture, glassware, silverware, and anything else you’ve rented for the ceremony and reception.
- Open and catalog presents. Dive into your beautiful pile of presents and start gasping at how awesome they are! As you take turns unwrapping everything, keep a list of who gave you what so you can remember to properly thank them later.
- Thank you notes. Don’t wait too long to start writing these. Set aside some time with your new spouse to take care of the thank you notes soon after you return from your honeymoon.
- Name changing. If you are changing your name, you will want to take care of this as soon as you have obtained certified copies of your marriage certificate.
- Make a wedding photo album. Sit down with your wedding photographer and pick out the shots that you’d like to use to create your wedding album. Even if you’ve put together a fabulous digital show of your photos, you will want a hard-copy album that you can take down off your shelves years from now and flip through.
- Sort through your wedding gifts. You may receive some gifts that you don’t wish to keep. Don’t wait too long to return these to the store, as the store may have a limited-time policy for returns.
