Eleftherios Kyriakou Venizelos (Greek: Ελευθέριος Κυριάκου Βενιζέλος, romanized: Eleuthérios Kyriákou Venizélos, pronounced [elefˈθeri.os cirˈʝaku veniˈzelos]; 23 August [O.S. 11 August] 1864 – 18 March 1936) was a Cretan Greek statesman and prominent leader of the Greek national liberation movement.

Son of a Cretan revolutionary, he served in the government of autonomous Crete as minister of justice (1899–1901), then led an insurrection that forced the autocratic high commissioner to leave Crete (1905).
Aug 23, 2023 · Eleftherios Venizelos fought for union of Greece and Crete. In the 1897 Cretan Revolution, Venizelos was especially active, establishing the revolutionary camp of Akrotiri. On August 25, 1897, Venizelos made a petition to the Great Powers for the Union of Crete with the rest of Greece.
