Sep 13, 2016 · The reason why I am asking this is that I have heard many fellow Indians of mine use "guy" to refer to a person who is above 50 or perhaps above 70. I personally think that it's just a synonym for "lad" which is assumed to be a boy whose age is 20 or below - i.e, teenage (13 to 19)

Chap would only be heard on old British sitcoms. Guy is fairly common, often used to refer to a man whose name you don't know. e.g.

Guy would be translated into Spanish as "Chico", not "Tío". except in informal language, "tío" would sound derogatory, rude. tío= bloke, mate, guy (in some cases) the word equivalent for girl (not female child) in the males, is guy, and it is not rude as tío and tipo usually is. Jan 7, 2014 · Hi, Everyone! In "Red" by John Logan (a play about Mark Rothko) there is a sentence: "You would have loved Jackson (Pollock). He was a downtown guy, a real Bohemian." What does "a downtown guy" mean? Just what it says? A normal pal from downtown? Or has it a special meaning?
