Kalinga was a territorial subdivision of east-central India that corresponded to present-day parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh. It was conquered by the Mauryan king Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE and later ruled by the Eastern Gangas and other dynasties.
