On the West Virginia "side" of the river that was the Brooke County line, on the Ohio side it was Jefferson County. In other words, in Steubenville, Weirton, and Follansbee the Mafia held sway.

Mar 27, 2012 · Yes there is a Mafia in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda. It has been growing since the 1980's. You can talk to any old timer who lived there for 25 years or more and had a business. They run their lives. They are not free. There are some bad lawyers, businesses, and cops in charge.

Jul 9, 2007 · For all intents and purposes, the Italian Mafia pretty much extinguished itself awhile back. There's still a low presence in some of their old stomping grounds in certain neighborhoods, but nothing like it used to be where they wield heavy power over the local businesses or are in bed with corrupt politicians (although I'm sure there's still a few with some "questionable" dealings).
