The upper part of the river isn't the best for larger sailboats, but you get further down river, Colonial Beach to the bay, and it really opens up and gives you plenty of space to move around.

  5. Dec 26, 2002 · Dry sailing is much less costly, but consider the practicalness, too. Wet sailing is SO convenient. Dry sailing is such a bother. For example, on big race days, you have to wait to use the hoist when other boats beat you to the dock. But, there is a middle ground. I keep my sailboat on a Hydrohoist.

With an experienced captain (and a low experienced owner/crewman) when would be the best time to sail my 35' sloop from San Fran to Seattle. She has a small Penta MD11C diesel for backup.
