Stan Douglas (born October 11, 1960) is a Canadian artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since the late 1980s, he has created works in film and photography as well as theatre productions and other multidisciplinary projects that investigate the parameters of their respective mediums.
Stan Douglas is a Canadian artist working with and testing the mediums of film, photography, and installation. His recent exhibition at David Zwirner, Los Angeles, features re-created photographic images of uprisings that took place around the world in 2011. These include the Arab Spring, London riots, Occupy Wall Street, and the Stanley Cup riots.
For more than three decades, Stan Douglas has used his art to reconstruct and reimagine what he calls “ruptures.” Through works of film, photography, theatre and various other media, he studies pivotal moments in history – times brimming with social, cultural and political possibility – whose effects still reverberate today.
