Tanashi (田無市, Tanashi-shi) was a city located in the western portion of Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. Tanashi means the land without rice. Because of the area's elevation relative to the Tamagawa River, traditional irrigation and rice farming was impossible. Hence, the area was named Tanashi.
Formerly a city in its own right, Tanashi is now a part of Nishitōkyō City. The main station in the area is Tanashi Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. The express train takes about 35 minutes to reach Tanashi from Seibu-Shinjuku Station.
