The Scaffold are a Liverpool-based group that combined humorous songs, sketches and poetry, led by Mike McGear (brother of Paul McCartney) and Roger McGough. They had several UK hits, such as "Thank U Very Much" and "Lily the Pink", and also composed the theme tune for The Liver Birds TV show.

The Scaffold was a comedy trio from Liverpool, featuring Mike McGear, who wrote this song inspired by a phone call with Paul McCartney. The song was a hit in the UK and the US in 1967, and was re-released in 2020 to support the NHS.
The Scaffold's rendition of "Lily The Pink" was recorded on 9 August 1968 at the EMI Studios in London. [2] Backing vocalists on the recording, included Graham Nash (of The Hollies), Elton John (then Reg Dwight), and Tim Rice; [1] while Jack Bruce (of Cream) played the bass guitar and Clem Cattini drummed.
