Uijeongbu, city, Gyeonggi do (province), northwestern South Korea. Uijeongbu lies approximately 12 miles (20 km) north of Seoul. Its name, meaning “State Council” in Old Korean, derives from its being the temporary site of the cabinet office during the Joseon (Yi) dynasty (1392–1910).
