May 9, 2022 · Before Taylor came out with Cruel Summer there was also a song with this name by Bananarama in 1983, and in 1998 Ace of Base also had a popular cover. Neither Bananarama or Taylor's Cruel Summer have lyrics that fit the premise of the show, and no version of either song would have been popular at the time period when the show takes place. Reply.
Jun 25, 2020 · The phrase “Cruel Summer” in itself I’ve seen a lot of internet Swifties say this is specifically summer 2016 bc of the Kim Kanye crap. I definitely agree it’s about Taylor’s summer 2016 BUT I love how Taylor makes things so relatable so I think it also is about the summer fling itself being “cruel” in general.
