Intestacy means that the deceased's estate has to be distributed according to the intestacy rules set out in the Intestate Succession Act. Family member(s) of the deceased must apply for a 'Letters of Administration' to become an 'administrator' of the estate, before they can distribute the estate according to the Intestate Succession Act.
If an intestate dies leaving a surviving spouse, no issue and no parent, the spouse shall be entitled to the whole of the estate.
If someone dies without a will in Singapore, the deceased’s estate will have to be distributed according to the Intestate Succession Act.
