Sep 19, 2024 · If you die without leaving a valid will behind, Singapore’s rules on intestate succession will determine how your estate is distributed to your survivors. The rules, as outlined in section 7 of the Intestate Succession Act, are as follows:
If an intestate dies leaving a surviving spouse, no issue and no parent, the spouse shall be entitled to the whole of the estate.

The administrator is someone appointed by the court to manage the deceased's estate according to the Intestate Succession Act. If the deceased did not leave a will, family member(s) of the deceased must apply for a 'Letters of Administration' to become an 'administrator' of the estate.
When the deceased's estate value does not exceed $50,000, family members may apply to the Public Trustee's Office (PTO) for the Public Trustee to administer the deceased's estate for a fee. The PTO will distribute the deceased's estate according to the Intestate Succession Act.
