1. The Agony in the Garden. (Mt. 26:30, 36-40; Mk. 14:26, 32-42; Lk. 22:39-53; Jn. 18:1) After the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, Jesus takes the Apostles to the Garden of Gethsemane at the foot of the Mount of Olives. With Peter, James, and John falling asleep nearby, Jesus undergoes a profound agony.
(Mark 14:46) The Second Sorrowful Mystery. The Scourging at the Pillar. When it was morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. They bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate, the governor. (Matthew 27:1-2)
