Kalmak-Ashuu Pass is located on the shortest access between Kochkor and Song Kul Lake. The pass is opened by a snow-blower at the end of May. and will close when the first snowfall falls in late October. But the nomads who wait each year for the pass to open will leave well before it closes.
If you cross Kalmak Ashuu, you can find yourself on the northern coast of the local mountain Son Kul Lake. Traveling through Kalmak Ashuu is possible only in the summer and autumn periods, starting in June and late October. In other months, it is swept by deep snows. The nature of this area is amazing.
