    • They lack a security thread. The counterfeit notes, which are believed to be photocopied or printed reproductions, lack certain features found on genuine notes, such as a security thread which is interwoven in the paper running vertically down the face of the note.
    • They have no watermark. Fake notes will usually lack a watermark when held up to the light. In the case of genuine notes, a three dimensional multi-tone portrait watermark of the first president of Singapore, Mr Yusof Ishak can be seen when the note is held up to the light.
