  1. Monroe is the eighth-largest city in the U.S. state of Louisiana, and parish seat of Ouachita Parish. With a 2020 census -tabulated population of 47,702, [4] it is the principal city of the Monroe metropolitan statistical area, the second-largest metropolitan area in North Louisiana.

    • Biedenharn Museum & Gardens. One local figure who made a considerable impact on modern life is the entrepreneur Joseph A. Biedenharn (1864-1952).     • Chennault Aviation and Military Museum. A fascinating figure who spent much of his life in Monroe was military aviator Claire Lee Chennault (1893-1958), remembered for leading the First American Volunteer Group (AVG) aka the “Flying Tigers” and the Chinese Air Force in WWII.
