  1. Really loved the twists & turns in the film, I honestly didn't see them coming at all. Nice eerie atmosphere throughout the film. I loved the cast of actors in this film as well. Kevin Bacon, Kathryn Erbe, Kevin Dunn, Jennifer Morrison, Illenna Douglas, Eddie Bo Smith Jr., Liza Weil etc.

  2. Love it! I, personally, enjoy it a lot more than The Sixth Sense. To compare the two without spoiling too much: The Sixth Sense may be more surprising/shocking, but it's all about building toward the reveal/twist at the end; A Stir of Echoes, on the other hand, is more conventional, but focuses much more on the characters and how they are affected by what's happening to them throughout the film.

  3. Dec 10, 2020 · It came out around 2 years after Stir of Echoes and has similar pacing and vibe! I loved this movie as a pre-teen because it terrified me. I watched it again as an adult and realized that when I was a kid, I DID NOT COMPREHEND what had actually happened to the girl. (Don't want to give any spoilers).

  4. Apr 6, 2022 · Was anyone disappointed when Stir of echoes ended up just being a ghost movie? Um, spoilers for a 22 year old film. Anyway I remember seeing it in theaters and it was really creative and atmospheric they way the film used hypnotism, and the build up to what the big mystery with what has happening to Keven Bacon's character.

  5. Nov 26, 2022 · When Stir of Echoes was released, it was criticized as being similar to The Sixth Sense, which overshadowed it. I happened to like it, mainly because I like Kevin Bacon as an actor. Anyway, if you haven't seen The Sixth Sense (and don't already know the big reveal), it's a terrific movie. 8.

  6. Oct 18, 2021 · This is movie #2. Blue-collar couple Tom (Kevin Bacon) and Maggie (Kathryn Erbe) raise their son Jake (Zachary David Cope) in a row house in an exurb of Chicago. But following a "party games" hypnosis session on the unbelieving Tom by Maggie's sister Lisa (Illeana Douglas), the surly linesman begins to see a spirit haunting his house, which ...

  7. Nov 19, 2020 · "Stir of Echoes" is a very effective ghost story that unfortunately gets overlooked due to coming out at the same time as "The Sixth Sense." Yet instead of the ghost stuff, this is the scene that sticks with me. It's a rather creepy hypnotism scene and does end up causing all the ghostly antics.

  8. jdpm1991. Stir of Echoes deserved the success of Sixth Sense. Hidden Gem. I watched both films in the past, but I found Kevin Bacon a much more interesting lead than Emily Osment's older brother whom I found really annoying in this. Kevin Bacon tried to get this released before SS was released but obviously that didn't happen.

  9. May 11, 2022 · Stir of Echoes was based on a 1958 novel by the legendary Richard Matheson, adapted for the screen and directed by David Koepp, one of Hollywood’s highest paid screenwriters. Bacon plays Tom, a middle aged phone line engineer who feels a deep resentment for his plain existence. This bitterness has frankly turned him into a bit of a dick.

  10. Dec 15, 2021 · Stir of Echoes isn't truly forgotten, but it is often glossed over when people try to summarize the history of horror films from the late 90s to early 00s. There are other films that come to mind -- House on Haunted hill, What Lies Beneath, even The Haunting -- that fall into the same category: solid films without enough exposure, which will still stand the test of time.
