Sep 6, 2024 · Astrid was well played by Jenna Ortega, not so much like her character on the TV show WEDNESDAY. She could use some working on playing the lighthearted part of a character still she did well as Winona’s successor. Naturally Winona Ryder slid right back into her role as Lydia.
Does that sound like a convoluted and hard-to-follow plot? It sure is, but the buddy road film, which actually references “Thelma and Louise,” actually offers a semi-fun ride, with plenty of humor, lots of CGI action, and unexpected dramatic and emotional moments.

Matt Walsh pretends to be a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) expert (albeit he pretended in real life) who interviews other DEI experts and proponents.
The movie boasts several magical sequences, like when Roz touches a butterfly-blanketed tree and the myriad insects explode into a swarm of color and scintillating beauty, or when Roz teaches young Brightbill how to fly down a leaf-covered stonework runway, or when Roz holds onto a tree with one arm and leans out over the edge of a cliff to watch the migrating geese fly away into the sunset.
