Philanthropists founded our College in 1882, converting a house in Liverpool’s Edge Hill district into a women-only teacher training facility, opening its doors in 1885.

Learning Edge is the name given to Blackboard and related teaching and learning tools available 24/7 to students and staff of Edge Hill University. Students will find course and module content on the platform and will also submit assessments here.
Prior to joining Edge Hill University in December 2023, Dr Katz was an Associate Professor in Sociology at Durham University (2023) and a Senior Lecturer in Childhood and Youth at Liverpool Hope University (2013-2022).
From its origins as a specialist institution with 41 female trainee teachers, Edge Hill now has almost 10,000 full-time students, another 3,000 part-time students on a wide range of undergraduate programmes, and almost 5,000 full and part-time postgraduate students.
