Epping Forest is a 2,400-hectare (5,900-acre) area of ancient woodland, and other established habitats, which straddles the border between Greater London and Essex. The main body of the forest stretches from Epping in the north, to Chingford on the edge of the London built-up area.

Epping Forest is owned and managed by the City of London. The Forest is of national and international conservation importance and home to over 50,000 ancient pollard trees and 100 lakes and ponds. Open 365 days of the year, the Forest is free to visit.
Ancient and magnificent, Epping Forest is the largest open space in London at just over 6,000 acres, stretching from Manor Park in east London to just north of Epping in Essex. It’s a haven for people and wildlife, offering open grasslands, majestic woodlands, deep ponds and the sounds of birds and insects.
The Epping Forest Visitor Centre at High Beach is a great place to start your visit to the heart of the Forest. The Visitor Centre is situated at a traditional beauty spot in the Forest, with many nearby forest trails, picnic areas, cafes and an easy access path.
