Li Yu ( Chinese: 李漁; pinyin: Lǐ Yú, given name: 仙侣 Xiānlǚ; courtesy name: 笠翁 Lìwēng; 1611–1680 AD), also known as Li Liweng, was a Chinese playwright, novelist and publisher. Life and writings. Born in Rugao, in present-day Jiangsu province, he lived in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
Li Yu was the third and last ruler of Southern Tang, a Chinese state during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. He reigned from 961 to 976, when he was captured and executed by the Northern Song dynasty.
Li Yu (937-978) was a Chinese poet and the last ruler of the Nan (Southern) Tang dynasty, which was invaded and conquered by the Song dynasty. He wrote lyrics in the ci form, expressing his grief and despair at the loss of his kingdom.
