[编辑] 任達華的父親為 警目 任錦球 （1969年在水警輪上和多位同僚被一名腦部受傷警員槍殺 [ 2 ]），其兄長為 警務處前副處長 任達榮，還有一名胞弟 [ 3 ]。 任達華早年在 灣仔 軍器廠街警察宿舍居住 [ 3 ] （父親殉職後與母親及兩兄弟移居 香港島 灣仔 大坑木屋區），畢業於 軍器廠街警察官立小學，在校時與 李國麟 為同班同學 [ 註 1 ]。 因就讀中學時期家境貧窮，任達華依靠獎學金讀至中學預科畢業 [ 4 ]，入讀 灣仔 交加里 7號 西南中學 分校時曾獲得香港賽馬會助學金減免 [ 5 ][ 6 ]。
