Takaful Malaysia was incorporated on 29 November 1984. The company separated its composite license into two in 2018 with Takaful Malaysia Keluarga as the holding company, which owns 100% of Takaful Malaysia Am.
Takaful Malaysia was established on 29 November 1984 when the Government of Malaysia set up a task force to study the feasibility of establishing an Islamic insurance company in Malaysia. [2] The incorporation of Takaful Malaysia as the first takaful operator in the country was in the same year as the Takaful Act was enacted. [3]
The development of the takaful industry in Malaysia in the early 1980s was inspired by the prevailing needs of the Muslim public for a Shariah-compliant alternative to conventional insurance, as well as to complement the operation of the Islamic bank that was established in 1983.
