May 2, 2012 · I ended up using the HYBRID map type, instead of using the SATELLITE one, and hiding the default user interface to turn off the visibility of the change map type menu, and hided the "road" element: mapOptions: { disableDefaultUI: true, mapTypeId: 'hybrid', styles: [ { featureType: "road", stylers: [ {visibility: "off"} ] } ]

Take a closer look at the URLs, the second link you posted sounds like it is almost exactly what you want but it lacks the satellite view.

The resulting map comes up with a round "A" balloon pointer, which seems to point to the nearest named object, and a green arrow, which points to the lat-lon. Sometimes, as in this example, the "A" pointer is centered and is far enough away that you cannot see the pointer to the lat-lon.
