- Will penetration hurt the pregnancy? Simply put, no. “During penetration, the uterus may move a little bit and you feel it,” Fosnight says. “People have freaked out something is happening to the baby.”
- Will pregnancy sex cause miscarriage? Sex won’t cause a miscarriage. Miscarriages are often a result of a fetus not developing normally. A 2011 study also concluded sex doesn’t induce early labor in low-risk pregnancies.
- Is bleeding after sex something I should worry about? “It’s always best to talk with one’s physician regarding any concerns,” Buehler says. But don’t fully freak out quite yet.
- Is it normal for sex to hurt during pregnancy? Sensitive breasts and nipples can be sexy. But for some, the sensitivity can make interactions painful.
- Sex from behind. This position is often cited by sex educators as a popular option for all kinds of partners. Up on all fours, this position keeps pressure off the belly, allowing the pregnant partner to stay more comfortable.
- You on top. Climb aboard! This position is supported by science, too — at least one Taiwanese study found increased sexual satisfaction for pregnant women who control penetration by being on top of the partner.
- Spooning sex. “Spooning is awesome,” Richmond says. It’s a comforting position where the partner holds and usually penetrates the pregnant partner from behind while lying down, both facing away from each other.
- Reverse cowgirl. Reverse cowgirl involves you, or the pregnant partner, straddling the other and is a good option in the first and second trimesters, Richmond says.
