Dec 18, 2014 · Shaw Theatres, part of the Shaw Organisation, was founded by the Shaw Brothers and has been operating cinemas in Singapore since 1927. With Shaw Theatres Waterway Point, it now owns eight cineplexes across the island.
The depot made it convenient for movie patrons who could be dropped literally at the cinema's doorstep. This ended in 1971, when the bus company was bankrupt. Rex itself continued business until 1983, when the Shaw organisation restructured its exhibition circuit. The last film shown was 'Jaws 3D'. <

Filmmaking at the Shaw Studio's stopped in 1983 as television production began in earnest at TVB, Shaw's associate company (see further section on TVB). For over a decade, the Shaw studio lots were leased out to TVB for television productions as well as other movie production companies. Then in 1995, Shaw started making movies again!

By 1988, the first cineplex were opened with admissions at $3.50. On 19 January 1991 there was another price revision. Prices for cineplexes went up to $4, while single screen halls had prices boosted by 50 cents.
