Leveraging on technology, The Singapore Mint has developed hybrid techniques to create high security and innovative features on circulation and commemorative coins and collectables.
The coins are part of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Fourth Chinese Almanac Coin Series (2017 – 2028), featuring the Dragon set against the backdrop of Gardens by the Bay, a showpiece of horticulture and garden artistry in the heart of Singapore.
The Singapore Mint Lunar Dragon Medallion features a majestic dragon soaring in the air, towards a golden dragon pearl, and adorned by elegant crimson red peonies. Since the ancient times, Dragon is not only a symbol of aristocratic power, strength and honor, and also a prestige symbol of the emperor and royalty.
In 1969, the Singapore Mint released its first commemorative coin to mark the 150th anniversary of modern Singapore's founding. Weighing 24.88 and minted with .916 fineness gold with a $150 face value, the coin featured the Raffles Lighthouse , a landmark in Singapore.
