Kevin McClory won the film rights and chose a single co-production deal with Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli: Thunderball (1965) that was released at Christmas. McClory's court victory also entitled him to remake Thunderball (1965) as Never Say Never Again (1983), again with Sean Connery as James Bond, the cinematic competition Broccoli had tried to legally ban. Once an assistant to director John Huston, McClory's cinematic legacy lies with one film - Thunderball (1965). The source of much litigation, McClory claimed co-authorship and was co-producer on the film and a belated remake, Never Say Never Again (1983). He also wrote and directed The Boy And The Bridge (1958).
McClory, Kevin O'Donovan (1926–2006), film maker, was born in Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, on 8 June 1926, son of Thomas John O'Donovan McClory (stage name Desmond O'Donovan), from Banbridge, Co. Down, and his wife Winifred (née Doran) from Wexford. Both parents were actors in travelling fit-up companies traversing Ireland and Britain.
