What starts out as rather rote becomes something much more endearing in "Happy, Texas," Mark Illsley's comedy about two escaped prisoners who masquerade as a gay couple in a small Texas town. Resisting any urge to be overly broad, the film is smart, spritely, and big-hearted and makes for an engaging piece of work.
