Drawing heavy inspiration from the post-punk and New Wave periods of the late seventies and early eighties, Allie X embodies the same spirit of rebelliousness, boldness, and humor on her 11-track record. Allie notes that being influenced by the music of those eras helped make the project feel achievable, due to the DIY nature of that time.
Allie X wasted no time on getting into her show, performing songs from Girl With No Face such as “Black Eye”, “Weird World”, and title track “Girl With No Face”. Stopping to speak with the crowd, Allie X explained she hadn’t been to The Opera house since she was a teenager watching a battle of the band’s performance.
A robotic and haunting synth track that is just so catchy and melodramatic! “Staying Power” rattled the walls in the room with its heavy bass and really reeled everyone in. The synths sounded just as good if not better in person; but there's something about live synths that makes going to shows so worth it and that much more special.
Although her music hasn’t quite caught on commercially with the mainstream crowd, Allie X has retained a healthy and faithful following of 920,000 monthly Spotify listeners. While she waits for the rest of the world to catch up, she’s taking steps to consolidate her future after 10 years of business dealings in Los Angeles.
