Shinsekai (新世界, lit. "New World") is a district in Osaka that was developed before the war and then neglected in the decades afterwards. At the district's center stands Tsutenkaku Tower, the nostalgia-evoking symbol of Shinsekai.

Jun 5, 2020 · Located in Osaka’s Naniwa district, Shinsekai is just a few minutes walk from Ebisucho Station on the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line and a 3-minute walk from Dobutsuen-mae Station on the Midosuji Sakaisuji Lines. The area began with the creation of Tennoji Park, the first Tsutenkaku Tower, and the Luna park amusement park on the site of the 5th National Exposition, held in 1903.
We saw on You Tube to have lunch at the Jan Jan Yokocho near here and then to walk through this area to Den Den town back to Nanba. We only went during the day, but would have loved to have seen it at night, but alas we only had 1 more night in Osaka and couldn't get back.
Besides enjoying the vast selection of tasty restaurants and eateries, one can also slip back in time at the Kasuga Gorakujo, the retro game center in operation since around 1959, and the bygone era style Shinsekai Hihokan, Japan's biggest shooting gallery.

The delicious smells of cooked food, the flashing and buzzing lights, the huge signboards, and the crowds make you feel like you just stepped into a Blade Runner movie.. However, you are really in an old retro part of Osaka that is unlike any other area in Japan. It feels almost overwhelming to be here, yet strangely alluring.

Shinsekai (新世界, lit. New World) is an old neighbourhood located next to south Osaka City's downtown "Minami" area. The neighbourhood was created in 1912 with New York (specifically, Coney Island) as a model for its southern half and Paris for its northern half.At this location, a Luna Park amusement park operated from 1912 until it closed in 1923.
