Dec 27, 2016 · Rama used the Brahmastra on a crow which finally resulted in the loss of right eye. Here Rama could invoke Brahmastra on a blade of Grass. This is because Rama has the knowledge of a particular divine weapon. The name of the weapon is ऐषीकम्(aiṣīkam) or ऐषीकास्त्र(aiṣīkāstra).
Dec 13, 2016 · It would be not possible to invoke a Brahmastra if he doesn't remember the proper mantras (remember the case with Karna. At a point of time, he couldn't invoke a Brahmastra but later after recovering, he used it against Arjuna). This could be the possible reason that Ravana didn't use Brahmastra if he possessed the weapon.
= Brahmastra, Brahmashirastra, etc... weapons of Lord Vishnu, = Narayanastra, Vaishnavastra, etc.. similarly weapons of Lord Shiva, = Pashupatastra, Maheswarastra, Raudrastra, etc... Literally, Pasupatastra = Weapon of Pasupati. So, there can be two category. One is special Pasupatastra (which Arjuna received) which is very powerful.

In Ramayana, Indrajit was able to hit Laxman by his special weapon named Shakti. Due to this Laxman went very near to death. Now Lord Hanuman went to Himalaya & brought Sanjivani. This way Laxman was saved. The next day Indrajit uses all three main weapons i.e. Bramhastra, Narayanan's Sudarshan Chakra & Shiva's Pashupatra (Trishul).
