Feb 2, 2024 · Of all the things to get wound up about, the trains being one way round or the other really isn't one of them. It's not really avoidable on the Midland given how the route and depots are configured - for example a strain could work from London to Derby one evening the "right" way round, then the following morning run from Etches Park to Nottingham and form a Nottingham - London.
Jan 4, 2013 · The East Midlands Trains passenger charter (valid from June 2010(not sure if this is the current edition however I picked it it up at derby station recently so would presume it is)) states on page 5 'if you could not buy a ticket because there were no ticket retailing facilities available at the station where you started your journey you can buy a range of tickets on board.

May 11, 2015 · This often meant that busy 3-car services east of Nottingham became 2-car packed services. I used to regularly travel that way, but choose to go via London now because of the chances of getting a seat and advance ticket availability. There is a lot of supressed demand on that route caused by a lack of stock.
May 3, 2017 · One and a half return trains per week (the Saturday service is to/from St Pancras but on Sunday only the return goes to London) and taking longer than any of the GC/VTEC services means that it would be a minuscule amount of revenue from flexible tickets.

The issue with fixed-formation trains is that instead of a short-form you may get no train at all - an argument consistently made on this forum for years about 8 and 12-car 700s replacing 4-car Thameslink units.
Jun 13, 2013 · Well to be honest East Midlands Trains are good on all routes EXCEPT the Norwich-Liverpool. They need 4 coaches, the toilets stink, rubbish is awful, trains come into Liverpool 19 minutes late but depart on time so no time for cleaning. The train comes into Nottingham for a 10-15 minute wait then opens the door and nothing has happened!
