Aug 3, 2022 · Gigli isn't an average romcom, more like an undercooked Tarantino-inspired flick with quirky gimmicks and celebrity cameos that rides on the chemistry of an Italian-named hitman hitting on a lesbian while taking care of a mentally handicapped person.
You can track his slide from reliable action comedy director into the more sentimentality-prone Oscar baiting type, but Gigli was definitely a dive off the deep end. I do suspect that there was significant studio interference and behind-the-scenes drama that ruined the potential for a unified vision.
