  2. Jun 20, 2024 · One can see the entire process of new star formation in this view of the iconic Horsehead Nebula in Orion. The blue supergiants star Sigma Orionis, which is above the field of view, is emitting intense ultraviolet radiation that is ionizing the hydrogen in the emission nebula IC 434, causing it to glow red at a wavelength of 656.28 nm.

  3. 6 days ago · The Horsehead Nebula is a dark nebula in the Orion constellation. The nebula is located just below Alnitak, the star furthest left on Orion's Belt, and is part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.

  4. 4 days ago · The Blue Horsehead Nebula is located in Scorpio, not far from Antares. It is a reflection nebula in which cosmic dust reflects the light of Nu Scorpii, a blue subgiant star, at a distance of about 440 light years from Earth.

  5. The Horsehead Nebula is approximately 422 parsecs or 1,375 light-years from Earth. It is one of the most identifiable nebulae because of its resemblance to a horse’s head. This new version was enhanced and processed in 2021 by Budassi.
